New Vision was founded in 2000 when the 1904 San Bruno United Methodist Church and the 1939 Community Church ofMore Millbrae merged. 

Senior Pastor Peter Lau was born and raised in Malaysia. Before coming to New Vision, he was Senior Pastor for 17 years at the Chinese Community United Methodist Church in Oakland. 

Director for Children and Pastoral Care Ministries Donna Carpenter earned her master's degree in education from Stanford University and a master's in theology from Fuller Theological Seminar.

Although the church has a large Tongan population, services are offered only in English. There are also Alcoholics Anonymous meetings held here.

Lomita Park achieved higher standardized test scores (826 API) than most in San Mateo County. As of the 2007-2008More academic year, Lomita Park spent $5,589 per student, almost half the district and state average.  Teacher salaries averaged $51,929, below the county average.

The school is 49 percent Latino, and 35 percent Asian. About 67 percent of students speak another language at home, and 58 percent are economically disadvantaged. There are 15 teachers, and the average class size is about 20 for K-3, and about 30 for fourth and fifth grade. The school has a gifted child curriculum, a special education and an ESL program.
