<p>Spring Valley, a California Distinguished School, achieved higher standardized test scores (882 API) than most in San Mateo County. The state ranked Spring Valley a 9 out of 10 for academics. The school has 43 computers, and every teacher has a laptop in the classroom. As of the 2007-2008 academic year, Spring Valley spent $4,843 per student, almost half the district and state average. Teacher salaries were $71,271, about 11 percent less than the district average, and well below the $88,147 state average.</p> <p>The school is 56 percent Asian, and 9 percent Latino. About 35 percent of students speak another language at home, and 12 percent are economically disadvantaged. There are 17 teachers, and the average class size is about 20 for K-3, and about 30 for fourth and fifth grade.
