Major Renovation on Scout House to Begin this Weekend

Volunteers will help on upcoming Saturdays, April 23 and 30.

The will receive a bulk of remodeling work Saturday thanks to donors and volunteers.

The former Millbrae Lions scout house, which is adjacent to , was shut down in 1999. The Lions Club, the Millbrae School District and the city formed a partnership to raise enough money to renovate the facility for children by Jan. 1, 2012.

On April 23 and 30, about 70 workers will paint the old scout house and install new flooring, lighting and furnishings. Rebuild Together, a nonprofit that funds community projects, will coordinate professional plumbers, carpenters and painters for the renovation.

“They’re giving us thousands and thousands in free services,” said MCYC Fundraising Chair Denis Fama.

Fama also has secured about $15,000 worth of furniture from Roche, a pharmaceutical company. He is in talks with the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club to create a partnership that could provide additional funding and a possible new center for the organization.

The scout house project still needs to raise about $60,000, according to Millbrae Lions President Randy Sahae. It also needs additional supplies, including ramp construction materials, handrails, interior lighting fixtures and raised planters for the exterior.
