Local Girl Scouts Celebrate 100th Anniversary

Millbrae and San Bruno Girl Scouts gathered outside the Millbrae Library to sing songs and eat cookies.

Girls from Millbrae and San Bruno gathered on Monday to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Girl Scouts organization, which was founded on March 12, 1912.

Millbrae Mayor Marge Colapietro and San Bruno Mayor Jim Ruane presented the Girl Scouts with awards for their volunteer work in the community. The local scouts counted down to 7:12 p.m. - as all Girl Scouts throughout the country did - to commemorate the organization's beginnings.

"We want to give thanks to these young people in an organization that teaches life values," Colapietro said.

The girls sang a few songs to the crowd of parents, including "It's a Small World" and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands."

After singing, the girls enjoyed cookies, milk, and juice and some even showed off their headstand skills.
