Downtown Millbrae Needs a Chic Dining Spot...Badly!

Millbrae needs a new dining spot

If you’ve lived within Millbrae for a while, you know that dining choices are fairly limited. You can pick from a huge amount of Asian cuisines, a couple of diners, a couple of pubs, and a few chain restaurants thrown in. But try finding the Gary Danko, Spruce, or even Straits style restaurants and you’re out of luck. To the true foodie, Millbrae doesn’t offer any rich and exciting experiences that are upscale. This is very sad considering the efforts Burlingame has tried capitalizing on their proximity to public transportation. They continue to try and inject variety – after all they pretty much have two downtowns to play with.

It’s high time the Millbrae planning commission and other community organizers think about inviting new investments into building a high class, gourmet eating establishment. Make it a destination not only for the Millbrae locals, but the new place to be for our quiet SF suburb. We need this on so many levels, but especially to revitalize Broadway south of the post office. Or better yet, include it in the upgrading plans in the works off of El Camino. Regardless, even SFO learned when they rebuilt the international wing that people want to eat, not just fly.

I suggest a great chop house or steak house style place. Big enough to serve excellent lunches but definitely designed for adult diners looking for a high quality experience. Of course the wine list has to be top notch and ideally the food is locally grown and raised with seasonal menus. I can see it now – a beautiful modern structure that stands alone (like a Peters Café or Flower Lounge). So what do you say Millbrae? Are you hungry?
