2012 was an extremely special year for the Millbrae Golden Gaters baseball organization. It celebrated its 10th anniversary of a 12-year-old baseball team competing in Cooperstown Dreams Park in New York.

"We wanted to represent this small community of Millbrae and make them proud of us," said Head Coach Dale Carney.

This team has prepared for its turn in Cooperstown for four years, playing in local tournaments and practicing weekly.

"Our goal was to just be competitive, stay focused, and work as a team," said Carney. "Part of doing that was spending a week together in the barracks. You were together 24/7 for a week."

Ending the regular play 6-0, the team had to compete in the single elimination tournament. The players were getting text messages, emails and phone calls from friends and family back home--everyone was behind the Gaters.

Going into the brackets ranked ninth, the Gaters won their first game, putting them into the Sweet 16. Their next game put the Gaters into the Elite 8.  The final game came down to a one-run win.

The Gaters finished fifth overall in the Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament.

"We did our best. These boys will be able to look back at this and have great memories to share," said Carney. "We want to thank the families, friends, past and present Gaters for their tremendous support for our boys. We are very proud to part of such a great organization."
