Step Up and Speak Out For Schools

Millbrae teachers and students rally to educate community about school budget crisis.

I brought my fifth grader to school at 7:00am today to go on a field trip to Sacramento.  Her class is going to see the Capitol building and the legislators who have been stealing the money from their school for the past several years.  Our state is doing something very wrong,  and our community is not doing enough to make it better.  It's time to act.  It's time to speak out and step up to help our Millbrae schools cope with this budget crisis, NOW!

Our children did not cause California's budget crisis, and should not be made to pay for it with their futures.  Here in Millbrae our students have lost Librarians, P.E. teachers and classroom aides.  They have gone from classrooms of 20 students to over 30 (even for Kindergarten and First Grade).  One Teacher.  30 Students.  It's not right.  This needs to change,  NOW!

This week teachers, parents and students are bringing the message to the community.  You will see flyers, posters and banners,  all asking for our state to fully fund education.  The kids can't wait for California to fix it's money problems.  First Grade students are learning to read NOW.  If we don't have the staff to teach them, they will not be able to succeed in High School,  College or in Life.  Millbrae residents need to pull their heads out of the sand and do the right thing, NOW!

Here's what every resident of Millbrae needs to do.  First,  make a donation to the Millbrae Education Foundation at www.millbraeeducationfoundation.org .  This is the only way to fund staff for the 2011 school year.  Your donation goes directly to our local schools and can be used right away.  Second, call our legislators to thank them for supporting school funding and demand strong support of all efforts (yes, even taxes)  to fully fund education.  Third,  show your support on Friday May 13th at 3:45pm at a rally at the Millbrae BART station.  The group will take BART downtown to Civic Center for a larger rally at 5:00pm.  Please be a voice for the students.  Please make a difference.  NOW!
