Taylor Student's Vision of Peace Could Win Her $5,000

The Peace Poster Contest is an international event sponsored by the Lions Club.

seventh-grader Dieyla Diop won the Millbrae Lions Peace Poster Contest for her depiction of peace.

Each year, Lions clubs throughout the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster contest in local schools and youth groups. The contest is meant to encourage children to express their idea of peace.

Dieyla, who won the local contest, will now move onto a district judging level. Posters advance through several levels: local, district, multiple district and international. International judges select one grand prize winner and 23 merit winners.

The grand prize winner receives a trip with two family members to Lions Day with the United Nations, where he or she will receive a plaque and $5,000. Each of the 23 merit winners will receive $500.

The contest receives more than 350,000 entries worldwide. Young artists can use a variety of mediums, such as paint, charcoal, crayon and pencil. International award winners are notified by Feb. 1.
