School District Brings Back Teachers

The Millbrae School District Board of Trustees vote to reinstate eight full time equivalent positions.

The Millbrae School District Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted on a resolution reinstating the positions of eight full time certified staff members who were previously laid off.

On May 7, the Board approved the decrease in response to budgetary concerns. School districts are required by the state to inform teachers who may be laid off of their employment status by May 15.

However, districts are sometimes able to bring back cut employees over the summer once the state budget and district enrollment numbers are finalized.

According to the district’s resolution, certain programs that were cut in May will be necessary for the 2012-2013 school year, resulting in the need of the formerly cut staff.

These positions include four elementary classroom teachers, three middle school classroom teachers and a middle school counselor.

Officials in the Millbrae School District are still weary of budget cuts, as state education funds are dependent on a ballot measure passing in November.
