The smell of gas at Portola Elementary was a false alarm, according to a PG&E spokesman Jeff Smith.
After school staff called PG&E around 9 a.m. to report a leak, utility workers responded and found no evidence of a gas leak.

Portola Elementary, about a mile from last week's explosion, was evacuated this morning due to a potential gas leak.
Children were transferred from Portola, located at 300 Amador Ave. to Parkside Intermediate School, located at 1080 Niles Ave. Parents can pick up their kids in the cafeteria.
