Millbrae Student Qualifies for State Geography Bee

California winner will head to Washington, D.C. for a chance to win scholarship money and an exotic trip.

Brandon Li, a Millbrae eight-grader, will head to Sacramento at the end of the month to compete with other California students for a chance to head to the National Geography Bee at the National Geographic Society Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The California winner will compete with 53 other US students in May for a chance to win a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos. Jeopardy host Alex Trebek will moderate the final round.

Brandon at the regional semifinals by correctly answering this question: “Cologne Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in northern Europe, is located in the Rhineland region of what country?”

By answering Germany, Brandon secured his victory. After the January regional contest, held at , Brandon successfully qualified for the state championship by placing among the top 100 in a written test administered to California bee participants.

The state bee will be held on March 30 in Sacramento.
