Bridging the Gap End-of-Year Celebration

Bridging the Gap is a program that was founded by my son, Jarryck, and me 6 years ago.  It began when Jarryck was dismayed and couldn't understand why he and his classmates could not join their peers in activities such as:  Outdoor Education, assemblies, field trips, earned reward activities.  He decided to ensure their own "special day," and bring awareness as to how really "cool" they are!

BTG brings together mainstreamed students at Taylor Middle and special-needs students.  This year we are welcoming Hillsdale High School (most of his classmates were the original Little Buddies,) Laurel Elementary, and Taylor Middle.  It is our mission to erase the stereotypes, educate, and celebrate the special gifts we all have.

We typically held 3 occassions:  Winter Holiday, Spring Egg Hunt, and End-of-year.  This Winter, Santa arrived!  He previously sent notes from the North Pole, and we anticipated...will he show up?  Yes he did!  (all the way from Australia, actually!)  The kids received a special gift from Santa, filled stockings, crafts, a movie presentation of them! food, tons of sweet things, and more!

BTG is funded 100% by Jarryck and me; so, unfortunately, we could not afford the Spring Egg Hunt this year.  However, our "Shiver Me Timbers" celebration will be great!  HHS, LE, and TMS will all meet for an everything-pirate gathering:  filled treat boxes (including pirate candy!) crafts, grilled hotdogs and fixings, and ice cream sundae bar, a movie presentation to include past celebrations, and so much more!

This is a free event.  We warmly welcome you to join us!
