Donation Days Raises Grand Total $144K

The Millbrae schools annual fundraiser saw a jump in support from last year.

The numbers are in. The Millbrae Education Foundation's annual fundraiser, Donation Days, has counted a grand total of $144,000 collected this fall.

Parents sent in donations by mail and dropped off checks and cash at schools last Wednesday and Thursday to go toward school needs for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The total raised is a 44% increase over last year.

"I am so thrilled, amazed, and touched by how everyone has come together to truly fight for our children and their education!" said MEF president Karen Bettucchi.

The Donation Days Challenge Grant this year was $21,000, a $1,000 increase from last year's. The first $21,000 parents donated last week was matched by funds that local individuals and businesses donated to create the challenge grant.

MEF will continue to raise funds throughout the year.

"Although we still have more to do to reach our ultimate goal of raising $400K to fund five new teachers for our schools next year, this is an amazing start, and we plan to keep the momentum going," Bettucchi said.

Readers who would like to donate at any time during the school year can do so on the MEF website here.
