State Senator, Assemblywoman Endorse Gina Papan for County Supervisor

Millbrae Councilwoman receives high-profile endorsements.

Senator Leland Yee and Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, Democratic representatives for San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, exclusively endorsed Gina Papan today in her run for San Mateo County Supervisor.

Voters will select one of six candidates for the county board of supervisors seat between April 4 and May 3 in a mail-in election. Yee, Ma and other Papan supporters gathered at the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center in Daly City to help spread Papan's message to the community.

“I know Gina has the experience to hit the ground running,” said Adrienne Tissier, San Mateo County supervisor. “I look for people to come to our board who are going to step outside the box. We don’t want a vanilla board.”

Tissier pointed out that Papan’s experience also will help the board make tough financial decisions to balance the budget.

“I grew up here, went to school here. I care about the people, our parks, our schools,” Papan said. “I’m striving to preserve the things I love.”

Raised in Daly City, Papan served as Millbrae mayor in 2008 and as California Deputy Attorney General for 17 years.

Although many of the county’s programs are in peril, Papan said she will work to create a sustainable budget through public and private partnerships.

“I have worked with Gina up close and know her tenacity to getting things done,” Yee said. “This is a time where we need such leadership.”
