State's Top Delinquent Taxpayers List Includes One from Millbrae

This Millbrae taxpayer has been on the list for a while, along with several others from San Mateo County.

The California Franchise Tax Board's updated list of its top delinquent tax payers includes one taxpayer in Millbrae.

Chihyih & Tefung Chen owes $391,021, according to the list. The Chens have been on the list since at least January of this year, and the amount they owe has gone down almost $20,000 since then.

The FTB's website states that about 90% of taxpayers pay the taxes they owe. Those who don’t contribute to the state's tax gap, which is the difference between taxes owed to the state and taxes that have actually been paid.

The California tax gap is currently estimated to be about $10 billion.

Taxpayers on the Top 500 list will be removed once the tax is paid or the taxpayer agrees to make payments under an approved installment agreement or offer in compromise, according to the FTB.

Tax liabilities under appeal, in litigation, or in bankruptcy proceedings are not included on the list.

Why is it news to report a citizen's name. This is their personal business not public information. They seem to be taking care of it.

I agree with Joanna. Not worthy reporting by Millbrae Patch, too much nosey neighbor in the news.

p.s. this similar story ran in April 2012 with the same name and many others. The Patch seems somewhat of a bully with this repeat story.

I'd like to know if they are my next door neighbors who bought the house, lived in it, had 2 kids then moved back to China (maybe Taiwan), then we heard they bought a house off Trusdale and have since let the house on Palm Avenue rot. They don't return emails from us about shared property line issues. How can I find out if this is them.

I pay my taxes and expect others who drive on our roads, use our public safety services, expect our parks to be clean and march five abreast down our sidewalks to also pay their taxes - if you don't want to see you name in the news - pay your share
