Millbrae Man and Woman of the Year Announced

Congratulations to the 2012 recipients for their continued engagement in the Millbrae community.

Millbrae's Man and Woman of 2012, as selected by the Mayor's Civic Coordinating Council, have just been announced.

Congratulations to John Muniz and Lois Way for winning the award this year.

According to the Millbrae Man and Woman of the Year Committee, Muniz has been a Millbrae resident over 18 years and has 2 children.

Muniz has volunteered in the Millbrae Lions Club, Millbrae Historical Society, Italian Catholic Federation, Peninsula Italian American Club, American Cancer Society, Millbrae Chamber of Commerce, Millbrae Community Youth Center, St. Bruno and St. Dunstan parishes, Helen Keller Fellow of the Lions Eye Foundation and the American Heart Association.

The committee's announcement said that Way has been a Millbrae resident for over 52 years. She has 2 children and was a foster mother for many abused, homeless and neglected children.

Way is a dedicated volunteer with the Millbrae Historical Society, AARP, the Chamber of Commerce Annual Art & Wine Festival, serves the New Vision United Methodist Church in Millbrae as a Board Member for the Nurturing Committee, and she raises money for the missionary work of the Wesleyan Service Guild.

On Thursday Oct. 11, a dinner and ceremony will take place at the Westin Hotel at 1 Old Bayshore Hwy.

Chief of Police Susan Manheimer will be the keynote speaker. The event begins at 6 p.m., dinner will start 7 p.m., followed by the ceremony.
