Millbrae City Council Preview: Presentations, Proclamations and Increasing Garbage Rates

The City Council meets the second and fourth Tuesday each month.

The Millbrae City Council will raise garbage rates about 2 percent in accordance with the franchise agreement the city has with South San Francisco Scavenger Company.

The agreement calls for periodic adjustments to the maximum garbage rates based on changes in the Consumer Price Index.

According to a staff report, the garbage rate increase is equal to 80 percent of the change in the CPI over a 12 month period.  The index went up 2.4 percent over that period.  That equates to a 1.9 percent increase in garbage rates for Millbrae.

The new rates will go into effect on July 1 this year.  The rate change will mean residential customers will pay and additional $.55 for a 32-gallon garbage container.

Increased revenues to the garbage company mean the city will collect an additional $8,000 a year in franchise fees.

The City Council meeting will be held in the council chambers of Millbrae City Hall, 621 Magnolia Avenue.
