San Mateo County will open up this May's ballot to write-in candidates for a Board of Supervisors position today, according to San Mateo County election officials.

Election hopefuls will have until 5 p.m. on April 19 to file nomination papers and gather signatures to be considered for the office of district one supervisor, Chief Elections Officer Mark Church said in a statement.

The write-in candidates will be placed on the local May 3 ballot. Those interested in becoming write-in candidates will first have to file a statement, detailing their personal information and desired position, Church said.
