Everything You Need To Know About The May 3 Election
Six candidates vie for one seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
This is a special election season and you can only vote by mail.
Why is this election special?
Last November, voters selected Mark Chuch as San Mateo County Elections Officer, vacating a position on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for the district one spot. This month, San Mateo County residents decide who will fill his role. Voters who are “not currently judged by a court to be mentally incompetent,” among other requirements, can only vote by mail, according to the California Secretary of State’s website.

How to vote by mail
The County Elections office needs to get your printed out ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day. But, that doesn’t need to happen in person. In fact, in this election you can only vote via snail mail. The last day to get a vote-by-mail ballot is April 26, 2011. (This is a process that you can do on a permanent basis, if making it to the polls isn’t an option.)
