Eat a Good Breakfast Belmont....It's Going To Be a Busy Week

A new mayor...toy drives...Beautiful Belmont Awards...Santa sightings and more on the horizon this week in Belmont.

There's a lot going on in and around Belmont this week, so Patch is here to help keep you organized and give you an overview of some of the things you won't want to miss, starting with Tuesday night's Belmont City Council meeting.

In addition to the installation of the city's new mayor and vice mayor, the December 11 Belmont City Council meeting will also announce the winners of the sixth annual Beautiful Belmont Awards Program.

The recognition program is designed to acknowledge individuals, businesses, and community groups who have enhanced the city's community by making significant exterior improvements to their Belmont properties.

Belmont Fire Chief Doug Fry will not be retiring after serving nearly 37 years as a firefighter as was reported earlier. The chief, who officially retired in June of 2011, but stayed on as acting chief following the dissolution of the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department last fall, will be on the job for at least another month.

Fry and Nitro, the K9 police partner of Belmont officer Mike Chicas, will be officially retiring at the council's first meeting in 2013, on Jan. 8.

Following the meeting, there will be an installation ceremony and a reception to honor outgoing Mayor Dave Warden, and to welcome the new mayor and vice mayor. The public is invited to attend the reception.

The Belmont City Council meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers of Belmont City Hall, One Twin Pines Lane. For more information, or for a copy of Tuesday's meeting agenda, click here.

Warren Lieberman is the best one on the City Council and he has been iced out for years....He does his homework, is prepared at all meetings and is rational. The three stooges, Wozniak, Warden and Feierbach need to be voted out for good. They are making a complete joke of Belmont. Time for change.

Thank you for the list of Mayors. Were the Mayors those who had gotten the most votes in the recent election, our does this Not matter?
Concerned Belmont Taxpayer December 12, 2012 at 03:45 AM
To summarize, Warren Lieberman was re-elected in 2009 and has never gotten the opportunity to serve as Vice-Mayor or Mayor. When the citizens of Belmont elect an official to the City Council, it is expected that they will have a rotation as Vice-Mayor and then eventually Mayor.
MG December 12, 2012 at 02:51 PM
It says above that Lieberman did serve a term as Mayor. If that is the expectation, why hasn't the Council changed the rules so that it is rotated? I find it ironic that you criticize the town's pretty politics and yet you call the current Mayor and other elected officials stooges. Don't forget that these people have all won elections by the people. They deserve your respect even if you don't agree with them.
Concerned Belmont Taxpayer December 12, 2012 at 03:07 PM
MG, you are right the people have elected them as well as Mr. Lieberman. It is expected that all members of the City Council receive an opportunity to be Mayor. During Mr. Leiberman's four year term they have iced him out as Mayor and Vice-Mayor. It is a rarity for this to happen in City Councils. If Mr. LIeberman, had broke the law, for example then I can see him not being elected to the Mayor or Vice-Mayor position. Listen, the petty politics is getting really old. Let's move Belmont forward and do something positive for this town. Let's start by voting out the WWF Regime so we can move the city forward..Signed, Concerned Belmont Taxpayer
