Chinese BBQ Restaurant Celebrates Grand Opening

Boiling Bay, new Chinese hot pot, replaces Zack's at 100 El Camino Real.

The Boiling Bay fired up its grill and simmered skewers Tuesday, bringing new life to a prime spot next to the station.

The Chinese hot pot/BBQ restaurant replaces Zack’s Bar and Grill, a Millbrae institution that shuttered last spring.

“It almost acts as a gateway to Millbrae,” said John Ford, president and CEO of the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce, of the location. “It’s an important property to have a business in.”

The city’s redevelopment agency owns the property, which is located within the Site One redevelopment area.

Nadia Chang, owner of the restaurant, said the city wanted to make the restaurant welcoming to everyone, so she added grilled meats to give the menu international appeal.

“We want to be an easy and relaxing place,” Chang said, adding that customers can enjoy the newly remodeled patio and tea bar.

The restaurant didn’t open as soon as city officials had wanted—the owners took over the lease last September and there was talk of a July opening—but three council members were in attendance to wish Chang success.

“In the interim of the redevelopment we want to make sure everything is productive,” said Councilwoman Gina Papan. “Any new business is exciting.”
