Budget Could Be 'Something to Brag About' at State of the City

First surplus in three years is "something to be happy about," but Mayor Colapietro wouldn't talk specifics when asked what her constituents should expect at Thursday's address.

Millbrae Mayor Marge Colapietro declined to offer specifics when asked about what her constituents should expect from her later this week but she hinted that she’s eager to talk up a last-minute budget deal the city reached last week.

The $18.4 million budget deal, which , includes a surplus for the first time in three years while socking away 15 percent of this year’s expenditures into a reserve fund.

“That’s something to brag about, isn’t it?” she said.

“I don’t like to brag, but it is something to be happy about.”

Colapietro said her address will highlight the city’s accomplishments over the last year. It will also describe her assessment of the city’s current environment and outline her vision for its future.

Colapietro said that with the budget talks behind them, the council’s focus would shift its focus to the development of a five-year budget plan and economic development.

But Colapietro declined to comment when asked the extent to which the council’s focus on future budgetary and growth priorities would figure prominently – or at all - in the address.

The 6 p.m. address, which is sponsored by the , in the David Chetcuti Community Room.

“I honestly don’t know whether or not any of that will be in there,” she said. “I haven’t gotten that far.”
