Special Ed Teacher Declares Innocence

Alexia Bogdis, 43, pleaded not guilty this morning.

Redwood City Special education teacher and Millbrae resident Alexis Bogdis said in court today that she was innocent of and depriving students of food.

"I have never abused a child, and I can't believe this is happening,” Bogdis said outside the San Mateo County courthouse, reported SFGate.com. “I have nothing else to say."

She faces five counts of child cruelty and four counts of battery.

Bogdis was instructed to stay away from the Roosevelt Elementary School campus, where the class was taught, but was not part of the school itself.

Six other employees for suspecting abuse, but not immediately reporting it to Child Protection Services.

Whether Bogdis is found guilty or not guilty will not absolve the employees from disciplinary action, which could range from verbal reprimand to termination.

"Our No. 1 priority is always to protect our students and keep them safe," Christensen said. "We have a moral, ethical and legal obligation."
