Serial Television Thief Gets 4 Years
A man who stole televisions in Millbrae and Redwood City has been sentenced.
A 31-year-old San Pablo man who stole a television from a Millbrae Walgreens has been sentenced to 4 years in state prison.
The defendant, Chauncey Smith, was seen walking out of the store in Sept. 2010 with a TV without paying for it. An officer stopped the defendant, but Smith then fled the scene.
In November 2010, Smith also stole a $300 HDTV from the Kohl’s store in Redwood City, while pushing a baby stroller with no baby. The following day, the defendant attempted to steal a third television from that Kohl’s, but was apprehended by security and arrested.

In Oct. 2012, the defendant pled no contest to felony charges. On Monday he received the 4-year sentence with 524 days credit for time served.
Smith had 17 prior strike convictions. He was being held in custody on $150,000 bail.
