Police Blotter: Millbrae Residents Victims of Mexican Timeshare Scam

A run-down of police activity and crime in Millbrae.

Friday, July 29

11:45 a.m., 900 block of Hillcrest Boulevard: An elderly woman called to report a sweepstakes scam. She received a call that she had won a new car and needed to send cash to claim her prize.

1:49 p.m., 1400 block of Murchison Drive: A company sent a letter of solicitation to several residents. The letter contained detailed information about their timeshare in Puerto Vallarta. The company that sent the letter was offering to purchase their timeshare. The victims fell for the offer and contacted the company. The victims received “legitimate looking” forms and were prompted to wire $5,800 for closing escrow. The victims were no longer able to contact the company.

12:26 p.m., Broadway and Millbrae Avenue: A man reported that he was hit by a car as he walked eastbound on Millbrae Avenue at Broadway. He did not get the driver’s information. Initially, he did not think he was injured but he later complained of wrist pain.

5:08 p.m., 300 block of El Bonito Way: Between 7 p.m. on July 29 and 7:50 this morning, unknown suspects entered two vehicles on El Bonito. The suspects took an SFPD radio and an inactive credit card.

 

Sunday, July 31

2:26 p.m., 200 block of South Ashton Avenue: A resident told police that a man was holding a female on the ground. The 14-year-old girl was just released from the hospital for an eating disorder and did not want to go home. Her father was holding her down until police arrived. The girl eventually agreed to return home with her father. The man and his daughter will seek counseling.

7:29 p.m., Hillcrest Boulevard and Via Canon: Police received a report of a dead body in the street. Police arrived and realized that it was a dead cat.
