Millbrae to ‘Adopt’ a Military Unit
The city joins neighboring communities in supporting military units with food and gift donations.
From the City of Millbrae
In a recent announcement Millbrae officials said the Millbrae City Council is in the process of formally adopting a military unit through the non-profit America Supporting Americans.
The city joins nearby communities San Mateo, Hillsborough, Burlingame, and Foster City in formally adopting military units through the ASA. San Mateo has the most experienced troop support program because of its long history of supporting a military unit.

The centerpiece of the ASA program is its Adopt-A-Unit program which coordinates with civic and community groups to arrange “adoptions” between cities nationwide and individual military units throughout the country.

As part of the program, each city organizes care packages providing units with a more comfortable style of living. Care packages typically include everyday necessities an enlisted person might need including extra food and beverages. During the holidays, volunteers often get festive and add seasonal items such as candy canes and often a wrapped present.
