Four police officers stood inside the entrance of the yesterday morning. The Millbrae Police Department did not make any arrests. They did serve coffee and assist customers from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., working the crowd for "tips", donations that will benefit the Special Olympic athletes of Northern California such as Trevor Erwin.
In addition to his full time job at a non-proft agency, Erwin competes in various sports. He greeted customers and was delighted to see the turnout and generosity of the community.
"Tip a Cop" is part of the nationwide "Law Enforcement Torch Run" fundraising event where law enforcement volunteer their time to help raise awareness and money that will benefit athletes. The proceeds from this event will help pay for training and competition in 15 sports.

The first ever collaboration between the Millbrae Police Department and the family owned Millbrae Pancake House prompted a majority of the patrons to empty their generous pockets. Officer Rob Raw said two $100 bills were donated by 11 a.m.
Long time employees Jackie Alger (40 year veteran) and Lita Wadao (38 year veteran) welcomed their temporary co-workers saying they did a very good job accommodating the customers.

Restaurant co-owner Erin Burke says the staff and customers are like family. Generations of families have dined and worked at the popular restaurant since it opened its doors in 1959. She says she's looking forward to continuing the partnership with the Millbrae Police Department.
