Millbrae Man Sentenced to 25 Years to Life in Fatal Stabbing
The man was initially found incompetent to stand trial, but then examiners determined that his competency had been restored.

A Millbrae man was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in state prison for the stabbing death of a teenager at a Millbrae high school in August 2010, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
Laungatasi Samana Ahio, 23, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison with credit for 1,071 days time served, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Ahio pleaded no contest in May to first-degree murder in exchange for a sentence that allowed the possibility of parole, Wagstaffe said. The deal let him avoid an enhancement that would have required a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.
Ahio surrendered the day after 19-year-old Jared Afu was found dead of multiple stab wounds to his face and neck near the tennis courts at Mills High School on Aug. 4, 2010.
Friends witnessed the stabbing by an angry suspect who fled the scene. A blood trail led investigators to a church two blocks from the school, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
There, they found Ahio's backpack, which contained a bloody knife and his identification, prosecutors said.
Ahio turned himself in to South San Francisco police the next day. Ahio was initially found incompetent to stand trial and was admitted to Napa State Hospital in June 2012.
In January, it was determined that his competency had been restored and the criminal case against him resumed.
