Millbrae Man Pleads No Contest to Vehicular Manslaughter

Defendant caused crash that killed one person on Devil's Slide.

Millbrae resident Thomas Harold Randall, 54, plead no contest in court today to vehicular manslaughter and drunk-driving charges that caused three injuries and one death on Highway 1 near Pacifica in 2009.

Randall was returning to Millbrae from Pescadero after drinking beer and vodka all day, according to court records. He was driving on the wrong side of the road by Devil’s Slide at 75 mph, and then overcorrected to the right, crashing into the victim’s car.

The person killed was a 32-year-old Italian tourist who was visiting friends in the area.

Randall had no idea where he was when CHP arrived on the scene, and officers recorded a .27 blood alcohol level, about 3 times the legal limit.

He could face up to seven years in prison if found guilty. He has been out of custody on $100,000 bail since the arrest. He will return to court on June 29 for sentencing.
