Man Found Guilty of Killing Friend in Millbrae

He pleaded not guilty to shooting his friend 11 times after they had spent a night drinking in San Francisco.

A jury found Teyseer Zaid Najdawi, 28, guilty on Tuesday of first-degree murder for gunning down his friend in a parked car in Millbrae in 2008.

The jury began deliberating on Monday on whether to convict Najdawi of the murder or find him not guilty by reason of insanity, which would have allowed him to spend time in a state hospital instead of prison.

Two court-appointed doctors reported that Najdawi was sane during the murder, and they will present their findings to the judge on Thursday. The defense attorney can challenge those reports.

During the trial, his attorney presented no evidence to defend his client’s actions as a tactical decision to limit incriminating evidence presented to the jury.

Najdawi was also convicted of attempted murder on his cellmate that he attacked for no apparent reason while in county jail.
