Gas leak near Spring Valley Elementary School

Classes have returned to normal.

The Millbrae Fire Department notified at 12:30 p.m. of a nearby gas leak on Pinon Avenue and ordered students and staff to stay put and take shelter, but the school was not evacuated.

"The school was at lunch when the fire department informed us," said Millbrae School District Superintendent Linda Luna. "The students on the playground were immediately brought in, and the kids that were eating in the cafeteria stayed put. We also made all the adults at the voting station go in."
