Fatal Accident Stops Caltrain Monday Morning

The collision occurred when a northbound train struck a pedestrian near the Hayward Park Station in San Mateo.

UPDATE 9:15 A.M.

A man was struck and killed by a train near the Hayward Park station in San Mateo this morning, Caltrain officials said.

At about 7:30 a.m., the man was hit by northbound train No. 215, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

The incident has caused delays of up to 45 minutes, Dunn said.

North- and southbound trains are single-tracking around the scene of the fatality.

Passengers boarding at Hayward Park and Hillsdale stations are advised to board from the southbound platforms, Dunn said.

Caltrain has started single-tracking trains along the Peninsula after this morning's fatal accident, but significant delays are still expected as the investigation continues.

Caltrain is experiencing delays this morning after a pedestrian was struck by a train in San Mateo, according to the transit agency's Twitter page and several news reports.

Northbound train No. 215 struck and killed the person near the Hayward Park Station at about 7:40 a.m.

Trains are being held while the incident is investigated.

Train #215 will not be moving until the coroner arrives.
