Santa Clara Caltrain Station Pedestrian Victim Identified

The man was struck by a train and killed Monday evening, causing delays that lasted for hours.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed by Caltrain in Santa Clara Monday evening as Philip Scholz, 35, of Pleasanton.

The Coroner’s Office told Patch that a determination has not been made as to whether the death was accidental or a suicide.

A second person was hit along with Scholz. That person survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Information about that person’s identity and condition are not available.

The two victims were hit by the train at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara train station. Ridership was light Monday evening because of the MLK holiday, but delays were still being reported at 8 p.m.
