20-Year-Old Woman Killed in Half Moon Bay Crash

A 44-year-old San Gregorio woman suffered critical injures in the crash.

A head-on collision in Half Moon Bay late Saturday night left one woman dead and another woman seriously injured, authorities said.

The accident occurred south of Miramontes Point Road on Highway 1 just before midnight when the northbound driver of a Dodge Caravan swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing into a Honda Civic, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel said in a statement.

The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Jose Mercury News identified her as Kathryn Habenicht, 20, of San Jose.

The Caravan driver was pulled from the vehicle by Cal Fire and transported to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries. The 44-year-old San Gregorio woman is in critical condition, the Mercury reports.

This collision is under investigation, the CHP said. It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the CHP at
(650) 369-6261 ext. 371.
