Millbrae Gets a New Sandwich Shop and It's the "Spot" to Be

Millbrae welcomes The Sandwich Spot to the north end of the city

If you have been around the north end of town lately, you would have noticed a new sandwich shop called The Sandwich Spot. They are located on Park Place right below full service salon. Yes, the names were just a coincidence, but a very funny and fitting one.

This is how I first noticed The Sandwich Spot. I was at The Spot for a facial and noticed that a new business was coming in right below. I was told that it was going to be a sandwich shop. I thought that was pretty awesome since I live close by and don’t always want to go downtown to get something for lunch.

They opened May 16th to rave reviews from everyone I knew, including my very pregnant cousin who would go there every day. Of course, I had to try it! I mean, who doesn’t love a good sandwich? And if a pregnant lady says they are good, I am inclined to believe her.

Since they are so close to my house, I decided to take a walk with my daughter and go pick up sandwiches for lunch. It was a beautiful, day made even better by the thought of a lunch that I didn’t have to make.

When I arrived at The Sandwich Spot, I was greeted by a very friendly staff. Everyone said hello, and asked how they could help. I really enjoy patronizing businesses where everyone has a friendly attitude. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone in to a business and nobody says hello or even tries to pretend they care about helping you. So this was already a good start to my sandwich foray.

It took me a very long time to look over the menu. There were so many great sounding sandwiches. Being the true Italian that I am, I had to pick the one with prosciutto, “The Bill Walsh.” I ordered “The Sharkie” for my husband, knowing I would be taking a taste of his, too.

I got the chance to talk to the owner who was super nice and the kind of guy you just want to be around. In fact, I did hang out with him, for quite a bit of time, while thoughts of my delicious sandwich danced in my head! When asked what he would like people to know about his sandwich shop, he pointed to a quote that was written on the wall above his head. The quote was “love all, feed all.” Here’s is what the owner Ryan, told me about the quote;

The “love all, feed all” came from the owner of the San Francisco Sandwich Spot. Myself and the guy in Redwood City bought into it. I just feel that it really ties into this shop because it’s a Bay Area sports themed shop. You have Stanford versus Cal, Raiders versus Niners, Giants Versus A’s. Just letting people know we don’t discriminate. If you’re a Giants fan we’ll serve you the same as if you’re an A’s fan. Same with the Raiders and the niners, they have a big rivalry. –Ryan Martino, owner.

The entire shop is covered with sports logos. Of course I zeroed in on the Giants. I guess there were other teams there too. Just kidding! When you take a look at the menu, you see a great representation of all the Bay Area teams. Sandwiches like the “Lou Seal” and the “The Mills Viking” (yay, go Vikings! Yes, I went to Mills!) are examples.

So now to the good part. How did the sandwich taste? Amazing! I first tasted my husband’s “Sharkie” sandwich. After one bite, I was kicking myself for not ordering that one. Then, I tasted mine and all thoughts of kicking flew out the window. My sandwich was a medley of warm turkey and prosciutto with melted swiss cheese and the creamiest avocado I have ever had! To say these sandwiches were good would be an understatement! Just thinking about it now makes me very happy that they are within walking distance to my house.

As an added bonus (and I know this is going to sound weird), they have good napkins. I was able to use one napkin while eating my sandwich. I cannot stand it when I get fifty napkins that are so cheaply made, you need to use all fifty by the time you finish your sandwich. I only needed the one. Better for the earth and I didn’t have a pile of dirty napkins at the end of my meal.

If you are in the area, check out this great new sandwich shop. You can also “like” them on Facebook under Millbrae Sandwich Spot. I plan on eating my way through the menu and I suggest you do, too! Okay, stop reading, get in your car and get a sandwich already! What are you waiting for?!
