Friends,
As some of you have heard, my son Derek graduated last month
from Mills High School. It was a special moment seeing him walk across
the stage and completed 12 years of schooling. The days of finger
painting, learning his alphabets, reading nursery rhythms and ending
with Calculus and Physics went by in a flash. The diploma marked a
chapter in his life that we will cherish. So we thought.

The
colllege application process is difficult and during a students senior
year, many take Advance Placement (AP) exams to see how well they did
and save some time and money in college. It's a big deal to take and
pass an AP exam. Today, we received a letter from Mills high school the
test given the first week in May given at Mills for 11 subjects were
invalidated. The reason given was the college board said Mills did not
follow the
testing regulations. The letter goes on to say they can retake the
test. The retest will take place in late August when some students will
have started college and most would be starting the weeks after. Simply
put, the school failed the seniors and the juniors who also particpate
in AP exams. My son Derek took 6 exams and will now have to decide to
retake 5 exams the week before the start of college. Many students had
been waiting for the AP exam results which were due a few weeks ago so
they can sign up for follow-up courses. The delay by Mills
administrators only caused more difficulty to the students as their
plans to skip some of the class requirements have been thrown into
chaos. Why couldn't Mills/College Board have conducted the retest in
June instead of waiting until late August.

Derek along with many
of his classmates are upset. They have started a petition at change.org
and have gather almost half of the signature they need to get too.
Please follow the link and sign the petition. Thank you for your time
in reading this.  (see link below)
