With
the school year well under way, students are digging into new academic challenges
and Millbrae Education Foundation (MEF) is launching its annual Donation Days campaign,
the organization’s largest fundraising effort of the school year.

“The
aim of Donation Days is to raise as much as possible to help our students meet
the challenges of a 21st Century education and achieve their fullest
potential,” said MEF president Karen Bettucchi. “We’re thrilled this year to
have received a $25,000 community challenge grant that will allow MEF to double
many of the contributions we receive during Donation Days.”

 On
Wednesday and Thursday, October 16 and
17,
volunteers from Millbrae Education Foundation (MEF) will be on hand
before and after school at each of the elementary schools – Green Hills, Lomita
Park, Meadows and Spring Valley – and at Taylor Middle School to accept
donations.

 MEF’s
goal this year is the 3 R’s – Retain, Restore and Reduce!

If
we raise:

•
$300,000, we retain the technology and music programs we are funding now.

•
$500,000, we can expand what we’re
funding and restore more enriching
programs.

•
$1 million, we can continue to fund
programs and help reduce class sizes
by hiring additional classroom teachers. This is a big goal, but other
districts have done it and Millbrae can too, with participation from our entire
community.

MEF encourages families with children in Millbrae
public schools to donate $450 per child if possible, but MEF president Karen
Bettucchi also emphasizes that every donation counts and is significant, no
matter the amount. Contributing during Donation Days is important, though,
because donations can be doubled by our $25,000
community challenge grant.

Last
year’s donations are hard at work in our schools today. We raised $280,000
dollars and are thrilled that for the 2013-14 school year we can:

•
continue
to fund two full-time technology teachers and a district-wide technology
program;

•
add
important teacher training focused on technology and the new Common Core Standards;

•
fund
a new elementary music teacher to provide music education to all of our
elementary school students.

you to MEF’s Community Challenge Grant donors:

 About
Millbrae Education Foundation

The Millbrae Education Foundation (MEF) is a
non-profit, volunteer organization devoted to raising money for the five
schools in our district. The MEF is the only organization that can provide
supplemental funding to hire teaching staff in Millbrae. The money we raise is
used to hire certificated staff (credentialed teachers) and fund programs our
kids need in the 21st century classroom.
