Space Shuttle Endeavour Finally Lifts Off

After several delays, the last mission for this shuttle began today.

Today marked the last flight, after 19 years, for space shuttle Endeavour set to lift off at 5:56 a.m. PST on Monday.

Endeavour's six member crew had originally been scheduled to launch April 28, but due to a failure in one of heater circuits, the flight was delayed. Usually, residents of the Bay Area are invited to watch the live televised broadcast of the launch at NASA Ames' Exploration Center.

During Endeavours's 16-day mission, the astronauts will deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to the ISS, which is a particle physics detector that will search for unusual matter and spare parts including two S-band communications antennas, a high-pressure gas tank and additional spare parts for Dextre.
