SFO Warns of Pet Scam Using Fake E-mail Addresses

Officials at San Francisco International Airport are warning people about a pet scam falsely claiming that animals are being detained at the airport.
In the scam, people receive unsolicited emails that offer to sell or ship animals as pets from overseas once money is sent to pay for vaccinations, according to airport officials.
The person or people sending the emails also claim to be in partnership with several international airlines at San Francisco International Airport and often cite false tracking numbers from non-existent airline veterinary departments.

The emails come from a fraudulent account, san-francisco-intl-airport@live.com, which is not associated with the airport but claims to be from its "Pet Department" or "Pet Care and Vaccination Department," neither of which exist, airport officials said.
