Mills-Peninsula Earns "A" in Patient Safety

For the third year in a row, Mills-Peninsula earned high marks for patient safety.

For the third year in a row, received an A rating for patient safety, according to a report card released by The Leapfrog Group.

“Mills-Peninsula is proud to have earned The Leapfrog Group’s highest grade for patient safety,” said Mills-Peninsula CEO Bob Merwin in a statement. “This is great news for our community and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire organization.”

A panel of patient safety experts analyzed 26 measures of safety data publicly available, such as how often hospital employees use best practices for preventing infections and complications.

The experts examine the number of patients who have surgical objects left inside their bodies, develop pressure ulcers and develop central line-related infections, among other measures of patient safety.

The experts also consider systems for preventing medication errors, such as using a computerized physician order entry system, or CPOE.

Mills-Peninsula is one of 729 out of 2,652 hospitals given a score to receive an A.

The Leapfrog Group is an independently run nonprofit.
