Millbrae Woman Sentenced to Probation for Fraud

Resident was illegally collecting money for deceased mother.

Millbrae resident Lani Sala Faamausili, 42, was sentenced to two years probation for scamming the California Department of Health Care Services out of about $4,500 in 2009 and 2010.

The state was subsidizing care that Faamausili provided to her mother, but when her mother died in September 2009, Faamausili continued to submit time cards claiming she was still caring for her mother, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Faamausili forged her mother’s signature on official documents and was caught on  Jan. 10, 2010.
