Millbrae Patch's Weekend Guide

Wondering what to do this weekend? Millbrae Patch has you covered with a roundup of local events.

Friday:

  • Middle School Dance at the Millbrae Community Center at 8 p.m. Kids in grades 6-8 should put on their dancing shoes to come dance and mingle with fellow students from Taylor Middle School, St. Dunstan's School and all over Millbrae. Tickets are $7 in pre sale or $10 at the door and there are no ins and outs once you've entered the dance.
  • Bi-Annual y sale: Friday sale: 3 to 6 pm Friends membership or $5.00 admission, Saturday sale: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  free admission. Sunday sale: 1 to 3 p.m. Bag of books $5

Saturday:

  • The Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA is hosting Santa "Paws" Photos. Your pet (and you) can sit on Santa's lap for that special holiday photo. For $15, visitors will receive one 4x6 color photo in a holiday frame and online access to their photo to download as many as they want. Photo ornaments are $5 each. All proceeds benefit PHS/SPCA shelter pets. The event will take place from 10 am to 12:30 pm at the Peninsula Humane Society office in San Mateo. For more information, the PHS website.
  • Holiday Tree Lighting in front of City Hall at 5 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce presents the City of Millbrae's 19th annual celebration. Everyone is invited to come and see the holiday tree light up and listen to songs and music presented by a children's chorus (if your child would like to participate, please be at City Hall by 4:45 p.m.). Hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies and candy canes will be served after the ceremony! Also, all attendees are encouraged to please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the event for the 
  • . Saturday and Sunday in front of  on Broadway Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Leo's will be collecting new unwrapped toys, canned and dry foods and clothing in good condition to donate to San Mateo Samaritan House to support local peninsula families in need.

  • Join the  for Latkepalooza!, their annual community-wide Hanukkah celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Live music by Kugelplex will delight the crowd, while crafts and games will be available for children and familes. Other activities include wine and olive-oil tasting, candle-lighting and of course potato latkes. Want to enter your latkes in the latke taste-of? Email slevin@pjcc.org for more details. The event is free to the public, but organizers are asking for gently used coat donations to support One Warm Coat. For more information, call 650-212-7522, or visit http://www.pjcc.org.
  • Nutcracker Party at the Peninsula Ballet Theatre Studio. Meet the dancers and enjoy face painting and games with children. 2 p.m. at 1880 S Grant St, San Mateo, children $25, adults $10, (at least one adult per family).
