Millbrae Library Will Bee Buzzing Tonight

Uncle Jer's Traveling Bee Show stops by library amid global concern over declining honey bee populations.

Uncle Jer’s Traveling Bee Show stops at today for an educational and entertaining event sweetened by honey samples.

Jerry Johnson, who goes by Uncle Jer, will have his live bees in the library and will provide an informational presentation designed for ages 5 to 95.

When , he captivated a large group of children and parents with facts, questions, a puppet show and even a comical bee dance.  Johnson awarded kids who answered questions with honey sticks.

Uncle Jer’s visit comes as honeybees, which play a critical role in pollinating plants and crops, are dying off in large numbers and for unknown reasons.

Though California’s honeybee population appeared to gain ground this year, local gardeners and “citizen scientists” are being asked to participate in a bee count this Saturday to help track the state of bees. For more information visit: www.greatsunflower.org.
