Milbrae celebrated the Chinese New Year on Jan. 29. The year of 2012 is the Chinese astrological Year of the Dragon.

The celebration included traditonal songs, folk dancing, martial art demonstrations and a ping pong tournament. Vendors and local associations presented gifts and colorful wares for sale.

The Lion Dance, which summons luck and fortune for the coming year and scares away evil spirits is a highlight of the celebration. Millbrae Mayor Marge Colapietro had the honor of "lighting the lion's eyes."
