Army Soldier from Daly City Killed in Afghanistan

Sgt. William B. GrossPaniagua, 28, died on Sunday

A U.S. Army soldier from Daly City died in Afghanistan on Sunday, according to the Department of Defense.

Sgt. William B. GrossPaniagua, 28, died as a result of injuries he suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle using an improvised explosive device in the Kunar province of Afghanistan.

GrossPaniagua was assigned to the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

He was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Gov.

Jerry Brown and first lady Anne Gust Brown released a statement this morning extending condolences to GrossPaniagua's family and announcing that flags will be flown at half-staff over the state Capitol today.
