Fabric Books and Toys

Arlyne Julao and Lea Gomez of Mariposa, Calif., inspired by their grandmother’s quilt work, started Fabric Books and Toys about 20 years ago.

The sisters and three assistants sketch the designs, and then start stitching and embroidering, completing about 70-100 pieces per week.

Estilo Clothing

Jerry Limon of Oakland screen prints his own designs onto t-shirts and sweatshirts. He’s on the road for about 8 months of the year at various festivals. Prices for t-shirts are $25 and $40 for sweatshirts. Check out his work at estiloclothing.com.

Danny Hughes Studio

Danny Hughes of Palm Springs is an avid hiker and his paintings reflect his passion. He first lines a block of wood with paper from antique books, and after painting, he coats the entire piece in resin, giving it a glossy vibrant look.

Scent-Sational

Debi Heier of Arnold, Calif. has been selling her potpourri pies for 12 years at the Millbrae Art & Wine festival. The flavored pies smell delicious, but unfortunately are not edible.

Heier grows some of the ingredients for the pies in her garden in the Sierra foothills. Flavors include mulberry, apple, peach and many more. The pies release their scents when placed on a stove burner that’s just been turned off after cooking, or on a window sill in the sun.

Fabrications

Paula Chang of San Mateo has been selling her handmade earrings at the Art & Wine festival for the last 15 years. Her jewelry is influenced by traditional Asian design, yet maintains a modern look.
