Power Outage Affecting Downtown Millbrae

PG&E is working on the problem but hasn't determined when the outage will be fixed.

Downtown Millbrae is suffering through a Thursday morning power outage.

“We suspect that a garbage truck struck a power pole,” said PG&E spokesman Joe Molica.  “A wire got knocked down but instead of hitting the ground it wrapped around another wire five times and caused extensive damage to the overhead equipment in the area.”

According to Molica, crews are hoping to have power restored by  2:30 p.m. today.  The original outage affected 640 customers in an area from Clearfield  to Millbrae Ave between Interstate 280 and Hemlock Avenue.

The outage was first reported at about 7:30 a.m.  Power was quickly restored to 430 customers.  The power remains out for the other 210 customers in the 200, 300 and 400 blocks of Broadway and immediately surrounding areas.

Patch will update this story as more details become available.  Readers can also refer to the PG&E outage map.
