Millbrae Winery Featured in Weekend Tasting and at O' Sole Mio

A local family has just released its inaugural wines, and a winery is beginning to hit its stride.

Today Millbrae winemaker Dan Morgan will see his wines featured at O' Sole Mio on Broadway—his products' first appearance on a restaurant wine list.

It’s been nearly 13 years since Dan produced his first 30 gallons in a garage at his home in Millbrae. In 2010, he began producing wine at a cooperative space on Treasure Island, and this fall, he and his wife, Karen Morgan, are looking to expand their brand’s reach.

This Sunday, the Morgans’ Heartfelt Wines will be specially featured in an open tasting from 1 to 5 p.m. at Treasure Island Wines on Treasure Island. The bottles Dan will showcase are 2010 vintages he has only recently released.

Dan will get an early start Saturday to drive the 80 miles to Windsor by 8 a.m., fill his trailer with 3 tons of grapes, and get them to Treasure Island Wines by by 10:30 a.m., and will process the grapes until about midnight.

“The crush is on,” Dan said. For this year’s vintages, the “crush” began a few weeks ago and will continue through early November.

The company's 2011 grapes are processed and currently barreled, and its first white varietal, a 2011 Chardonnay is being bottled now.

Dan said that Heartfelt's Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah will be featured at O' Sole Mio, until further notice. The family winery also produces Syrah and their flagship wine a Cabernet-Syrah blend called "Inspiration Red."

At Treasure Island Wines tastings, members of the public are able to speak directly with the winemaker.

The production facility hosts tastings most Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., showcasing five Bay Area wineries. The Morgans’ products will also be specially featured next Saturday Sept. 29 in addition to this Sunday.
