Cockroach Infestations Close Two Millbrae Restaurants

After additional inspections, the businesses have been allowed to reopen.

The San Mateo County Health System closed two Millbrae restaurants last week due to cockroach infestations.

Hong Kong Flower and Chu Kong were both closed on September 20 after a non-satisfactory health inspection. Both restaurants were again inspected on September 21 and allowed to reopen. They underwent additional inspections on September 25 and were rated as good.

At the September 20 inspection, Hong Kong Flower was also found in violation of having adequate hand washing facilities and supplies, practicing proper hand washing and glove use, using properly cleaned surfaces and practicing safe food handling.

Chu Kong was also found in violation of adequate hand washing facilities, proper hand washing practice, adequate equipment and utensil marking and clean food contact surface requirements during its inspection.

County Health System representatives report that it took a few days and a couple follow-up inspections before the restaurants were deemed safe to re-open for business. The businesses are currently open.
