Best Millbrae Businesses of 2011 Selected

Chamber of Commerce names recipients of business excellence awards.

Three Millbrae organizations will receive business excellence awards at the 12th annual Chamber of Commerce dinner at the Palm Room at the  on Jan. 19.

The was selected as “Business of the Year”, the won “Restaurant of the Year” and the Millbrae Community Foundation received the “Chamber Excellence Award.” 

“The Magnolia of Millbrae is truly a Millbrae gem,” said Millbrae Chamber of Commerce President John Ford. “The staff deserves to be recognized for their dedication, exemplary care and for providing a top-notch environment for older members of our community.”

The Magnolia of Millbrae opened its doors in 1999 on the site of the former Chadbourne Elementary School, and now employs over 100 people and provides full-service assisted care to about 180 seniors.

The Chamber of Commerce chose the Hong Kong Flower Lounge as its restaurant of the year because it helped establish Millbrae as a top Asian cuisine destination in the Bay Area.

“Many nominated restaurants were deserving of the award,” said Rob Lee, business awards committee chair. “But the Hong Kong Flower Lounge’s consistent high quality, popularity and longevity in Millbrae made them this year’s winning choice.”

The third business excellence winner was the Millbrae Community Foundation for its ability to raise funds for community programs that improve the quality of life in Millbrae, according to the chamber.

One recent grant donation was to the Lowry family, . With the help of volunteers and a grant from the MCF, the Lowry’s home was rebuilt last month.
